Step into the enchanting world of the Shire (on Bilbo Baggins birthday, no less!) dedicated to the beloved Hobbit tradition of second breakfast. Join us for an unforgettable night of delicious Hobbit fare with a delightful breakfast twist.

Indulge in an array of hearty dishes inspired by Tolkien's timeless tales, all while basking in the ambience and vibes of local folk music that will transport you straight to Middle-earth. Feel the rhythm in your feet as you join in the guided spirited dancing, and embark on thrilling side quests that promise fun and adventure for all.

Whether you're a die-hard Tolkien fan or simply looking for a magical evening out, our Hobbit Second Breakfast offers a unique experience filled with delicious foods and new Hobbit pals in one of Edinburghs most magical locations.

What to expect at the Hobbits Second Breakfast

Fine Hobbit Fare

We know it’s an evening event, but to us Hobbits breakfast is an all day affair!

A delicious Hobbit feast will be the first part of your exciting adventure here in the Shire.

    • A welcome glass of prosecco or non alchoholic tipple

    • Giant popover filled with venison sausages, bacon, eggs & tomatoes

    • Chicken & mushroom pasties with leek & mushroom (v)

    • Selection of homemade bread, cheese & pickles (v)

    • Marmalade toast pudding with custard (v)

    • Bubble & squeak paties (v, vegan, gf)

    • Pear. honey, walnut, heritage tomato salad with vegan fetta (v, vegan & gf)

    • Creamy potato & Chive salad (v, vegan & gf)

Side Quests

We quite think you’re ready for your next adventure!

When you arrive at the Secret Herb Garden, you’ll be given information on what secret quests are available throughout the evening. We don’t want to give too much away, but expect to be delighted with fabulous activities to help you immerse into Middle Earth.

Dancing & Merriment

Lead by an incredible traditional folk band, not only will fiddles be diddling throughout your journey in the Shire, but the end of our evening will be lead by an incredible dance caller.

Merriment will very much be encouraged and guided for the end of our evening!

Dress Code

There are no strict rules on what to wear in the Shire, however here are a few ideas to get your creative mind flowing

Footwear: While hobbits traditionally go barefoot, we encourage you to wear comfortable shoes or sandals, perfect for dancing in!

Clothing: A pair of trousers or long skirt, paired with suspenders and simple shirts. Waistcoats and jackets in earth tones or rich colors like green, brown, and burgundy are perfect!

Accessories: Add a wee extra touch with scarves, capes or cloaks, belts, and perhaps a picnic basket!

Tickets to the Hobbits Second Breakfast are £135pp and include the following:

  • Exclusive use of the Secret Herb Garden - it’s a Hobbits only affair!

  • A welcome tipple

  • A hearty meal with options for all dietary requirements

  • A folk band & called dance throughout the evening

  • A selection of exciting side quests

  • Professional photography throughout the night

  • A team of fellow Hobbits to help you immerse in Middle Earth

  • An exclusive event limited to a small group of participants, providing a unique and intimate experience

Alcohol

Each Hobbit will receive a welcome drink upon arrival (non alcoholic also available!) and water, tea and coffee will be available as part of your ticket cost.

The Secret Herb Garden will have a cash bar with wine, basic spirits, soft drinks & cocktails available to purchase in addition to your ticket.

Please note, the venue takes card only and this is an 18+ event, so make sure to bring your ID with you just in case!

  • Tickets are £135pp and go on sale August 15th at 9.30amBST sharp.

    Please note, there are over 400 people on the waitlist for this event and our past group experiences have sold out in under 3 minutes - to avoid disappointment, make sure you mark the date in your calendar!

  • The MCC is a womens only, 18+ club.

    Over 95% of our attendees rock up by themselves!
    We highly encourage you attending the Hobbits Second Breakfast solo as we believe this is how you really make friends!

    At the MCC we pride ourselves on creating environments and experiences that help naturally create connection and find your people.

    That being said, you are of course more than welcome to attend with a friend!

  • There is parking on site at the Secret Herb Garden and doors will open at 7pm sharp.

    Public transport is limited so we do encourage pre booking a car or driving to the venue.

    The Secret Herb Garden has wheelchair access and disabled toilets.

  • Can I attend with a friend?

    You absolutely can, and there will be an opportunity for you to let us know who you’re attending with after you’ve booked your place! We will do our best to ensure you gals are sharing a room too!

    Please don’t forget this is a ladies-only event; leave the boys behind for this one! 😉

    What if I don’t live in Edinburgh?

    Hobbits from all around the world are welcome to join us for Second Breakfast - you don't need to be a local to attend!

    Are there any age restrictions?

    The Hobbits Second Breakfast is an 18+ event, and the majority of our attendees range between 20-45 years old!

    Will it be cold at the venue?

    The Secret Herb Garden is an indoor, enclosed venue with heaters too! However we do encourage you wear layers as it will be autumn in Scotland at this time.

    Do I need to be into Lord of the Rings to enjoy this?

    Hobbit culture is for everyone to enjoy, you don't need to be a LOTR buff to enjoy this event!
    If you like good food, wearing cute attire and making pals - this is the event for you.

    What is your refund/cancellation policy?

    Life happens, and we understand that. If you need to cancel your booking within 2 weeks of your event, don't worry – we've got your back. While refunds may not always be possible due to vendor commitments, we're here to help find the best solution for you. Just reach out, and let's chat about how we can make things right.
